|First Appearance||Dragonball Z|
|Family|| Father: King Vegeta|
 Character Description
Vegeta is a fictional character from Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT series. He is the prince of a nearly extinct, extraterrestrial race of people called the Saiyans. Vegeta debuts in Dragonball Z as one of the primary antagonists and then develops into the series' anti-hero. Vegeta appears in a few Dragonball Z movies, which include the Return Of Cooler, Super Android 13, Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan, Bojack Unbound, Fusion Reborn, and Wrath of the Dragon. He also appears briefly in the DBZ special Bardock: The Father of Goku in his youth.
Vegeta is a short, somewhat stocky man with upright, black hair with red highlights and a deep widows peak. Since he is almost always engaged in combat, Vegeta mostly wears a Saiyan combat suit. But in his first appearance in the anime his hair is a reddish brown and his outfit has a radically different color scheme, very different from the original manga. The color of his hair and armor were later changed without explanation. Throughout Dragonball Z, Vegeta wears different variations of the suit. However, in Dragonball GT, he completely abandons the suit for a more "Earthling" look, which consists of a red, sleeveless shirt, black leather pants, and a pair of gray gloves and boots. Sometimes he wears a sleeveless black leather jacket, giving Vegeta a "cool" looking appearance.
 Plot Involvement
 Dragonball Z
After the death of Raditz, Vegeta learns of the existence of the Dragon Balls on Earth. Him and Nappa, the other remaining Saiyan, deviate from their duties from Frieza and head towards Earth to look for them, intending to wish for immortality.
It takes one Earth year to arrive on Earth, and when they arrive Vegeta and Nappa are met by Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Tien and Chiaotzu. Vegeta lets Nappa deal with them while he watches, waiting for Goku to arrive. Goku finally arrives and, out of desperation to protect Gohan and Krillin, incapacitates Nappa. Seeing Nappa as now useless to him, Vegeta kills him and then is challenged by Goku.
The battle is pretty evenly matches, until Vegeta resorts to transforming into his giant monkey Oozaru form. In this form he has the upper-hand against Goku and manages to cause him great injury, until Gohan, Krillin and also Yajirobe involve themselves in the battle. Yajirobe cuts off Vegeta's tail causing him to return to his usual form. The battle continues, Gohan fights against Vegeta as Goku is out of action, it's then that Krillin, with Goku's help, launches a Spirit Bomb at Vegeta, seriously injuring him. Vegeta is forced to retreat to his space pod, but is confronted by Krillin carrying Yajirobe's sword. Vegeta, unable to defend himself was at Krillin's mercy, but Goku pleaded with Krillin to spare Vegeta's life. Vegeta then retreats to his space pod and leaves Earth.
Namek & Captain Ginyu & Frieza Sagas
After healing on one of Frieza's planets, Vegeta soon learns that Frieza has gone to Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls. He heads there in hope of beating Frieza to collecting all seven, and upon arriving soon realises that Frieza has managed to collect 5 already, and also that Gohan, Krillin and Bulma are also on the planet too. Vegeta discards his scouter, putting his faith in his own abilities and runs into Dodoria, one of Frieza's higher ranking soldiers. After easily killing Dodoria, Vegeta heads off in search of just one Dragon Ball to ensure Frieza cannot summon the dragon. He comes across a Namek village contain on of the Dragon Balls, quickly he kills everyone in the village and hides the Dragon Ball in the lake.
Later he runs into Zarbon and, feeling confident in his new strength, challenges him. Vegeta seems to have the upperhand in the fight, until Zarbon reveals that he can transform and become stronger. Intrigued, Vegeta allows Zarbon to transform and what Zarbon said holds true. He greatly overpowers Vegeta and leaves him to drown in a lake. After Zarbon has gone Vegeta manages to crawl out of the lake and passes out.
A while later he awakens in a healing machine inside Frieza's ship. Realising his chance, he escapes and causes enough confusion to lure Frieza and Zarbon away from the five Dragon Balls they have collected and steals them before making his escape. With the five he stole and one other he hid in the lake, Vegeta bides his time until a little later he spots Krillin flying overhead carrying the last Dragon Ball. He gives chase, knowing full well that Zarbon is also following and when they all arrive, Vegeta decides to deal with Zarbon first. Zarbon transforms but Vegeta shows little fear and rightfully so. His recovery from his near-death experience from earlier had increased his strength and this time Vegeta easily defeats Zarbon, killing him. He then turns his attention to Krillin and takes the Dragon Ball, then flies off to go retrieve the one he hid in the lake. On the way he has a small run in with Gohan, despite the boy acting strangely Vegeta lets him live, more concerned with getting back the Dragon Ball. Once he arrives at the lake he dives in to search for it, but soon realises it's missing and deduces that Gohan has stolen it. Enraged, Vegeta heads straight after him, soon catching up with him and Krillin. But before they can do anything they stop as they sense five new powers approaching Planet Namek. Vegeta recognises them as the Ginyu Force and warns Krillin and Gohan that they won't stand a chance against them and will have to team up and grant him immortality with the Dragon Balls. Reluctantly they agree and take their two Dragon Balls back to where Vegeta has hidden the five he had already collected. However they were too late and the Ginyu Force had already arrived, taking the Dragon Balls off them. Captain Ginyu, the leader, leaves to take the Dragon Balls back to Frieza, leaving Jiece, Guldo, Burter and Recoome to deal with Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin. Recoome is picked to fight Vegeta so Guldo takes on Krillin and Gohan, using his psychic abilities to overpower them. If it weren't for Vegeta stepping in and killing Guldo they would have died. Recoome then steps in to deal with Vegeta and greatly overpowers him despite Vegeta's efforts, much to Vegeta's annoyance Krillin and Gohan step in to help him. It's at this moment that Goku arrives on Namek to help, easily defeating both Burter and Recoome, leaving Jiece to go get help from Captain Ginyu. Goku gives the three of them a senzu, then, as Jiece arrives back with Ginyu, tells Gohan and Krillin to go find the Dragon Balls and asks Vegeta to help him fight the two Ginyu members. Vegeta agrees but as soon as Krillin and Gohan have left he heads off too, leaving Goku to deal with them himself and heads back to Frieza's ship. A short while later Goku returns with Jiece but they soon realise something is wrong - Ginyu has stolen Goku's body! Vegeta quickly kills Jiece and heads after Ginyu and as he overpowers him Ginyu realises he needs to change bodies again and attempts to steal Vegeta's. Goku jumps in the way and returns to his original body, Ginyu makes the same attack on Vegeta, except this time Goku throws a frog in the way, causing Ginyu to switch with it. Vegeta shows Goku to the healing machine in Frieza's ship and gives the others and himself Saiyan armour. Vegeta then settles down to sleep as he hasn't slept in quite a while.
When Vegeta awakens he sees that the sky is black, thinking it odd because Namek always has at least one sun in the sky he goes out to investigate and soon realises that Krillin and Gohan have summoned the dragon without him. Just as they are deciding their third wish Vegeta catches up with them, incredibley enraged that they took off without him. He demands his immortality but it's too late, the dragon dies before the wish could be granted.
It's then that Frieza appears, enraged that his wish cannot be granted. With no sign of Piccolo around, Vegeta takes on Frieza and they seem evenly matched, until Vegeta provoks Frieza into transforming. By the time Frieza has transformed, Piccolo has arrived and takes on Frieza, doing remarkabley well and forcing Frieza to transform once more. In this form Frieza overpowers Piccolo which sends Gohan into a rage, with Gohan and Vegeta's growing strength, Frieza transforms one final time into his last form. Frieza immediately kills Dende and is then challenged by Vegeta. However despite Vegeta's increased strength he is no match for Frieza. As Frieza is about to kill him, Goku finally arrives, healed. Frieza mortally wounds Vegeta, and just before he dies he pleads with Goku to kill Frieza.
Sometime later Vegeta is suprised to find himself brought back to life, he heads after Frieza and sees that Goku has become a Super Saiyan, but before Vegeta can do anything more he is transported off the planet - along with everyone else on Namek except for Goku and Frieza. They soon learn that the Earth dragon revived all those killed Frieza, thus reviving Porunga and using the last wish to transport them all to Earth while Goku still fights Frieza. Via King Kai's commentry they learn that Planet Namek was destroyed and Goku with it.
Months later the Namek Dragon Balls are recharged and they try to revive Krillin and Goku. But they learn that Goku cannot be revived because he is still alive, and that he will return home soon. In the meantime Vegeta had been taken in by Bulma and living there...
Garlic Jr., Trunks, & Android Sagas
Just before this Saga began Vegeta left Earth in search of Goku. He cam across many planets still under Frieza's rule and set about destroying Frieza's remaining soldiers while he searched. Eventually, Vegeta came back to Earth, unsuccessful in finding Goku.
The Z Fighters gather in an abandoned section of the mountains, all sensing that Frieza is approaching Earth. But before any of them can react a mysterious youth appears out of no where and challenges Frieza, and his father King Cold alone, even turning into a Super Saiyan. He quickly disposes of Frieza and King Cold and invites them all to wait with him for Goku to arrive back on Earth, knowing that he should arrive very soon. They wait and sure enough, Goku arrives. The stranger takes Goku aside and talks to him in private, then leaves after. Goku tells the others that he was from the future and had come to warn them all that in 3 years time two powerful androids will appear, stronger than anything they have ever faced. In preparation for the day, all the Z Fighters go about training. Vegeta trains long and hard for 3 years in the gravity room, pushing himself to the limit.
Vegeta first appears as he steps into #19 and Goku's fight, just as #19 is about to kill Goku. Vegeta steps in and takes on #19 himself, also showing his new Super Saiyan skill, Yamcha then takes Goku back home to recieve the medicene Trunks left with him. Vegeta easily disposes of #19 but #20 escapes before they can destroy him. Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin and Tien head after #20 and follow him into a range of mountains. Eventually they find him, and this time Piccolo takes him on alone and overpowers him with ease. It's then that the Trunks, the boy from the future appears and also Bulma, in a hovercar. #20 takes the oppurtunity to attack Bulma's car and provide himself with a distraction to escape. Trunks, after explaining who he really is, also tells the others that the two androids they have been fighting are not the ones from his future, so the group head after #20 again, who Bulma informs is Dr Gero.
They come across Dr Gero's lab, where he has activated 3 more androids, #16, #17 and #18. The newly released androids kill Dr Gero and destroy most of the lab, then take on the Z Fighters. Insisting on a one-on-one, Vegeta takes on #18 alone feeling confident in his new strength, but despite his new Super Saiyan skills he is soon beaten, recieving terrible injuries. The androids take off, leaving the Z Fighters to go their own ways and rethink what to do. Vegeta, enraged and disappointed with his defeat, takes off alone, but it is soon followed by Trunks.
Imperfect & Perfect Cell & Cell Games Sagas
Vegeta muses over his defeat at the hands of Android #18 and tries to decide what to do next. During this time, Goku and Gohan arrive, telling them of a place where they can train for one year and only one day will pass in their time. The four of them head to Kami's lookout where Vegeta demands that he use the room first. Goku agrees to this but pursuades him to take Trunks with him too. Their training begins and they train for the full year, as they leave, Trunks agrees to Vegeta's demand of not speaking about the training they went through and the two of them head off to deal with Cell.
Soon they find Cell, who by now has already absorbed one Android and is trying to absorb the other, but Vegeta demands a fight with Cell. With his increased strength, Vegeta easily overpowers Cell to the point that Vegeta is actually disappointed in the fight. It's then that Cell offers Vegeta the chance to fight him at a stronger level if he lets him absorb Android #18. Despite Trunks and Krillin's protests, Vegeta agrees even going as far as attacking Trunks to stop him from interveening. Cell absorbs #18 and Krillin begins to regret his decision of not deactivating her. With the transformation complete, Cell takes on Vegeta again and this time overpowers him, even Vegeta's new Final Flash attack is no good against Cell. It doesn't take long for Vegeta to be beaten unconscious, Trunks takes over the fight, telling Krillin that he didn't interfere earlier because he was stronger than Vegeta and didn't want to hurt his father's pride. Unknown to Trunks however was that Vegeta had also found this level of strength in his training, but realised that speed was too greatly comprimised. Once Vegeta is revived with a senzu and given an explanation of Cell's plan to fight again in 10 days time, Vegeta decides to head back to the Room of Spirit and Time for another days training.
Finally the day for the Cell Games arrives and they all gather to fight Cell. Goku fights him first but he gives up part the way through the fight, insisting that Gohan is stronger than him and should fight instead. Gohan is unsure about this but agrees to fight and initially doesn't seem to be making much progress. Cell is disappointed in this and wonders why Goku sent out Gohan to fight him as he was expecting a better fight. Gohan explains that when he gets angry he unlocks strength, so Cell decides to release Cell Jrs and attack Goku, Vegeta and the others in an attempt to make Gohan angry. Despite all this it doesn't seem to be enough to push Gohan over the edge, even when he realises everyone there but Trunks has died once before and as such, can't be revived again. Android #16, who also joined the others to fight Cell makes an attempt to destroy Cell by self destructing himself. But unknown to him, his bomb was removed by Bulma so his plan was a failure. Cell then destroys #16 himself, smashing him to pieces. #16's head remains intact and he talks to Gohan, telling him it's okay to get angry, if he's fighting for good. Cell gets irritated by #16's noise and smashes his head, totally destroying him, this is what sends Gohan into a rage, pushing him over the edge and transforming him into a Super Saiyan 2. In his transformed state he is easily a match for Cell, even begins to toy with him despite Goku and the others asking for him to finish Cell. This leads to Gohan's downfall, as Cell realises he cannot win he decides to make a desperate move - self destructing, an explosion powerful enough to destroy the whole planet. There's nothing Gohan can do and as he dispairs at his mistake Goku steps in, telling Gohan he did well, then teleporting himself and Cell away, sacrificing himself to save them all.
Gohan is distraught that his actions have ultimately lead to the death of his father but before he can mourn the loss Cell reappears, and aims a beam randomally, killing Trunks. Cell explains that in the explosion his core cell wasn't destroyed so he simply regenerated himself, and because of his Saiyan cells, he's even stronger than before. Before Gohan can react, Vegeta launches a fierce attack on Cell for killing Trunks but is unable to make much damage and winds up injured. Gohan saves Vegeta's left by blocking a blast, badly injuring his arm. Cell then launches a powerful Kamehameha, which Gohan matches with his own, and the two are locked in a beam battle. With words of encouragement from his father's spirit Gohan is able to keep Cell's beam at bay, but not enough to overpower him. Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha and Tien also step in to help by firing their own blasts at Cell. Finally, Vegeta gives in and helps too, much to Cell's suprise. Using that moment when Cell is distracted, Gohan pushes the beam forward and is finally able to overcome Cell and kill him for good.
Later, as everyone on Earth is wishing back to life those that were killed by Cell, Goku refuses the offer to come back, saying that he feels trouble follows him and Earth would be safer. He then stays with King Kai in Other World, saying goodbye to his friends and family. Vegeta seems unhappy with never getting the chance to face his rival again, saying he will never fight again.
Majin Buu & Kid Buu Sagas
It's been seven years since the defeat of Cell and Vegeta has been living peacefully with Bulma and Trunks, he has even taken up his training again and is also training Trunks. Once he hears that Goku will be entering the tournament he is eager to enter to settle their score.
The day finally arrives and everyone gathers at the tournament, Goku and the others all make it through to the final rounds, as well as Videl and a few other strange characters. The Youth Division is first and as everyone suspected, Goten and Trunks make it to the final. It's quite close, but eventually Trunks is the winner. During the adult matchs, Piccolo decides to forfeit his round, as he senses his opponent is none other than the Lord of Lords himself, the Supreme Kai. Videl gets badly injured during her match and Gohan's is next. He is faced by the Supreme Kai's companion, Kibito, who tells him he wants to see his full power. Gohan agrees and powers up to Super Saiyan, but before they can fight Spopovitch and Yamu, two other fighters who made it to the finals, attack and steal all of Gohan's power and run off. Supreme Kai explains to them all that a wizard has appeared on Earth to ressurrect a monster known as Majin Buu, and that they will need his power to help stop this from happening. They all follow Supreme Kai to where the wizard is hiding and watch and spot him, Babidi, who has also gained control of Dabura, the king of Demons. Babidi heads inside with the energy they collected from Gohan but is aware that they are all watching him, Dabura attacks and turns both Piccolo and Krillin to stone, and kills Kabito. He flies back inside Babidi's ship which is submerged into the ground and is quickly followed by the Supreme Kai, Goku, Vegeta and Gohan. The ship is made up of different levels with Majin Buu's ball which he is sealed up in at the bottom and each step of the way is a warrior to fave them. Goku and Vegeta are able to defeat their opponents with relative ease, leaving Gohan last to fight against Dabura. However before the fight is over Dabura leaves, telling them he has found an even better warrior for them to fight against. Moments later they learn what Dabura meant, using Babidi's powers he is able to manipulate Vegeta and bring him under his control - to a degree. Vegeta is now intent on fighting Goku no matter what he has to do to get him fired up, even killing members of the audience at the tournament so Goku is forced to agree. He tells Gohan and Supreme Kai to go and try to stop Majin Buu from hatching while he deals with Vegeta, knowing that all the hits that are landed in their fight will contribute to the energy needed to hatch Majin Buu.
Goku fights against Vegeta intensely and it soon becomes obvious that their strengths are equal. As the fight goes on Goku comes to realise that Vegeta purposely let himself be pulled under Babidi's control in order to recieve extra strength from the wizard, and is suprised Vegeta would go to so many lengths just to fight him. Vegeta tells how he feels he has gone soft over the peaceful years and wishs he was the way he used to be, without attachments to family and the like. The fight goes on until they realise Majin Buu must have been released and Goku is eventually able to persuade Vegeta to postpone their fight, but as Goku back is turned, Vegeta knocks him over the head, knocking him unconscious. He takes a senzu and then flies off to face Majin Buu by himself.
Despite all his increased strength, it soon becomes clear Majin Buu will not be beaten easily, as he runs into trouble, Trunks steps in to help him out. It's then that Vegeta makes a decision on what to do. He knocks out Trunks and Goten and asks Piccolo to take them far away to safety as he intends to kill himself in an attempt to destroy Majin Buu. Once they are safely out of the way, Vegeta makes his sacrifice, releasing all his energy and burning up to nothing but ash.
Later, as the situation on Earth worsens, Vegeta is called out of Hell by Yema to go back down to Earth as he is the strongest fighter in the Afterlife and the one most likely to be able to defeat Buu. Shortly after he arrives, Goku teleports to him and learns that Yema let him go to Earth, being the strongest person in the afterlife and most likely to be able to defeat Buu. Goku explains what has been going on and suggests they fuse, which Vegeta refuses completely. After Goku reminds him everyone on Earth is gone, even Bulma and Trunks, Vegeta finally agrees and puts on his Potarra Earing and the two of them fuse into Vegeto.
Vegeto proves to be much much more powerful than Goku and Vegeta and is easily able to knock Buu around. It all seems to be going well until Buu absorbs Vegeto, Goku and Vegeta are confused as the fusion splits once they are inside Buu. Vegeta destroys the earing so he won't have to fuse again and the two of them try to find a way out. After several run-ins with Buu they come across Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Piccolo and Majin Buu inside pods so the two of them set them free and head ouside of Buu via the blow holes in his head. They escape and see Buu change form as a result of removing their children, Piccolo and from disconnecting the tie to Majin Buu, changing into Kid Buu. Kid Buu, having little logic or reasons to his actions decides to destroy the Earth, Goku acts by grabbing hold of Vegeta plus Hercule and Dende and teleports them to safety to the Kai Realm. When they arrive there Vegeta gives him an earful for saving Hercule and Dende, rather than any of their children. The see through the Kai's crystal ball that Kid Buu has totally destroyed the Earth and moments later arrives too at the Kai Realm. Goku and Vegeta, despite what everyone else suggests, decide to take to it in turns to fight Kid Buu, rather than teaming up. Goku wins their match of Rock Paper Scissors so goes first. He powers up to SSJ3 and fights with Buu, but as time progresses the use of this form begins to take it's toll on Goku and he begins to run out of energy. He regrets not fighting at full strength at the begining of the fight as he is sure he probably could have won, but held back so that Vegeta would get a chance to fight Buu aswell. Vegeta tells Goku to regain his energy while he fights Buu, knowing full well if he dies in the fight he will cease to exist as he is already dead. Goku does his best to re-gather his energy as Vegeta fights and nearly dies at the hands of Buu, only Hercule stepping in being what saved him. Kid Buu attempts to fight Hercule but something is holding him back, Majin Buu who is still inside his body. To counter this Kid Buu release Majin Buu from his body and fights with him instead. Elsewhere, Vegeta wonders what is wrong and Goku tells him he can't gather the energy so they have to think of something else to do. Vegeta comes up with a new plan, he tells the Kai's and Dende to summon Porunga on the Namek Planet and wish back the Earth and everyone on it who died today to come back to life, except the bad ones. Goku is pleased to see in that wish Vegeta was brought back to life too, then Vegeta tells Goku to start gathering energy for a Spirit Bomb while he calls upon everyone on Earth to give their energy to the Spirit Bomb. All those who know Vegeta give up their energy, along with a handful of others who decide to when he pleads desperately for it. Everyone else ignores him, Goku is able to gain a little more energy by asking, specifically from those he has met along the years, but it is Hercule who saves the day. Being the Savior of Earth, they all agree to help when Hercule asks and the Spirit Bomb grows tremendously. It's enough to do the job and finally, Kid Buu is destroyed for good, Goku makes a small request that Buu's spirit be reincarnated as a good guy...
Ten years after the defeat of Buu and Vegeta has once again settled into his quiet life with Bulma and Trunks, he even has another child with Bulma. This time a daughter named Bura who is about a year older than Pan.
 Dragonball GT
Black-Star Dragonball Saga
Like the majority of the cast, Vegeta is rarely featured in this saga. He is only seen briefly in the first few episodes before Goku, Trunks and Pan travel into space. He seems to still keep up with his training and for reasons best known to himself is now sporting a moustache.
Vegeta has kept up his training during the peaceful ten years, although perhaps not as intensely as in the past. For reasons unknown, Vegeta has decided to grow a moustache. When Vegeta hears about Goku going into outer space to look for the Black Star Dragon Balls, he insists Trunks and Goten go with him as the two of them have gotten lazy in their training recently. He drags the two of them to the ship, but in the end Goten manages to escape going, as Pan takes his place.
Super 17 Saga
Shadow Dragon Saga
Like most other primary Dragonball characters, Vegeta can easily manipulate his ki to levitate and fly at high speed as well as create attacks. Being a Saiyan and years of training enable Vegeta to also possess superhuman strength and move at superhuman speed.
Vegeta, like most of the major characters in the series, is known to give names to his energy attacks. In his first appearance in Dragonball Z, Vegeta is seen using several energy attacks, some of which are similar to those of the protagonists in the series. They include (but not limited to) a two fingered laser-like blast, a fireball attack, and a purple colored ki wave similar to the Kamehameha Wave, dubbed the Galick Gun, which he used in a desperate attempt to defeat Goku when he first arrived on Earth. Later on throughout the Dragonball series, Vegeta develops an arsenal of energy techniques which include the Big Bang Attack and Final Flash, which are his most powerful attacks. His most commonly used technique throughout the series is when he fires a large array of small ki blasts in rapid succession. Even though Vegeta never named it, it has been officially dubbed "Rapid Fire (Energy Dan)." In Dragonball GT, Vegeta develops a new, green colored ki wave technique called Final Shine.
Vegeta's Saiyan bloodline allows him to transform into an Oozaru when he's exposed to Blutz waves given off by a moon, so long as he has a tail. However, in Dragonball GT, Bulma develops a Blutz Wave Generator which allows Vegeta to transform without having a tail. Vegeta is also able to transform into a Super Saiyan, and throughout the series Vegeta is able to reach heightened forms of the transformation, including Ultra Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, and in Dragonball GT, Super Saiyan 4.
 Appearances in Other Media
Vegeta appears as a playable character and boss in most (if not all) Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT related games. In several games, he is playable in his Super Saiyan forms and occasionally even in his Oozaru and Majin Vegeta forms. In DBGT related games, Baby Vegeta (which is Vegeta possessed by the parasitic creature Baby) is a playable character and boss as well.
